Interview with Chibi Alex-chan, the author of the stories Dreamers, Sparkle Star (Maze and RPG), Dark Moon Rising and Child of the Pomegranate
Post: What the hardest part (for you) about making a Kamishibai story?
Alex-chan: "Staying focused my mind wonder so easily it hard to keep my attention on the kami I'm working on."
Post: What do you think about when making a Kamishibai story?
Alex-chan: "I think about lot of things (mostly what I'm going to do once I finish the part I working on) *lol* But seriously if I'm focused I'm usually think about what would make me laugh or cry (depending on whether I'm working on a comedy or tragedy)."
Post: So when planning a Kamishibai how do you get your imagination flowing?
Alex-chan: "I listen to music and let my mind wander and then I just wait to my imagination to come up with something that sounds interesting. Some time it's a long wait, other time it's like I turn around and my brain is smacking me with another ideal. It's kinda of unappreciable sometimes the strangest things inspire me."
Post: What were some of the things that influenced Dreamers?
Alex-chan: "Hmm. I'd say Dreamers has been influenced heavily by Magic Knight Rayearth and Sailor Moon."
Post: What was the hardest part about making Dreamers?
Alex-chan: "Trying to get it funny and going at a good pace, so I can finish the story before I'm an old lady *lol*"
Post: Some of your characters have some rather unique names, why is that?
Alex-chan: "*lol* I don't know what you could be talking about. If you mean that names like Snake, and Firefly is what one would normal names for characters, I'd have to agree. But you Dreamers is rather an accident which is a long story but it basically boils down to I feel in love with the name and the drawling of the girl the name went to, and thus Dreamer was born."
Post: What are your plains for your Dreamers in the future?
Alex-chan: "Well I don't have everything set in stone but it definite that the girls get cool power, and continue to argue, fight and generally have fun. I can tell you that soon the girls pick up their last member (Bunny), the meet Princess Holly, and Snake get to sing in chapter 4!"
Post: Other than yourself who are some of your favorite Kamishibai artist?
Alex-chan: "Gee, I don't think I could pick one, everyone stories are always so good, but I think if I have to choice just one I say it's Kodachi Batchix, because her story "The Trouble with Banshees.." is what got me started in Kami."
Post: If you could change one think about Kamishibai what would it be, and why?
Alex-chan: "The image size, I've had problems with some my images being to big, so I have to cut them down *sniff*"
Post: What's your favorite part of making a Kamishibai story?
Alex-chan: "Posting it so others can read it, I just love sharing and I love to read other stories. I also like the feeling of relief, knowing you have one less stories to write can some times be a relief (especial when you got five over due papers to write ^_^)."
Post: So what are some of the Kamishibai your considering for the future?
Alex-chan: "I want to do another magic girls story staring Sparkle Star. Also I like to some more short stories and an other game, but they have to wait till I finish Dreamers."
Post: So do you have any additional comments, concerns, or thoughts for us?
Alex-chan: "I like to say thanks to everyone on the posting board. And thank you for having me here."
